Known by many names, the National flower of Laos is most commonly known as Dok Champa, Frangipani or Plumeria. Seen all across Laos and in the warmer corners of America and the tropics, the plumeria flower is used for so many things. It is a symbol of luck and represents sincerity and joy in life. This sweet smelling flower is common at Lao temples and public gathering spots.
Dok Champa has a long standing history as part of the baci ceremony and is often given as a welcome and good luck gift to new businesses. And of course Lao girls use the flowers in many ways as part of traditional costume, dance and religious ceremony.
